What We Do 

Each year, the DGH Foundation Board supports the purchase of priority medical equipment needed by the hospital.

In the past two years the Dartmouth General Hospital Charitable Foundation had funded a number of high priority items for the hospital.

64 Slice CT Scanner - $ 2million
This Scanner can be used to help evaluate different causes of chest pain including pulmonary embolisms, aortic dissections/ tears and potentially heart attacks; detection of aneurysms and atherosclerotic disease; early identification of many types of cancers; reduces the need for more invasive examinations;  CT’s are much more comfortable for patients – shorter breath holding – shorter time lying flat and still.  It takes 11 seconds to obtain a scan of the heart, brain, lungs, kidneys or spine.

Echocardiography Lab - $250,000
Digital image echocardiography is a noninvasive, diagnostic test used to confirm or rule out many types of heart conditions.  The procedure is an ultrasound of the heart, which produces a detailed colour picture. With the digital lab, cardiologists are able to see the most common causes of heart failure (a weakened heart muscle or an inability to fill up with blood properly - myocardialrelaxation).  The lab will help identify certain types of inherited heart disease such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a cause of sudden cariac death for all age groups, see leaky or diseased values and allow cardiologists to peform specialized tests.

Bed Replacement Program - $130,000 annually over seven years
We are currently replacing all hospital beds to meet current standards and comfort level for patients.

Ventilator Replacement Program - $50,000 annually over six years
We are currently replacing ventilators to meet current standards

Small Equipment Items & Staff Support - $100,000
The Foundation provides $100,000 annually for priority small equipment items such as blanket warmers, vital signs monitors and stretcher mattresses as well as enhancement for clinical areas.
