2023 marked the 15th anniversary of Get Up There (GUT), an event dedicated to raising funds and awareness to support colorectal screening and prevention.
Colorectal cancer is a disease that takes the life of one Nova Scotian every day. It is also 90% preventable.
Funds raised through GUT have helped the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation purchase equipment and technology used for colorectal cancer screening. Last year, the third endoscopy suite at Dartmouth General was opened thanks to the support of GUT participants, sponsors, and donors. This endoscopy suite is used exclusively for screening FIT-positive patients. Fit tests are sent to Nova Scotians over the age of 50 every two years, and they detect trace amounts of blood in your stool.
In 2023, GUT raised the bar even higher than it has in the past, aiming to raise $75,000. Participants created teams and planned to climb the hills of Wentworth, all while aiming to reach this new milestone
amount.
Thanks to the incredible support of the community, and the tireless efforts of the participants, not only did they reach their goal, but they exceeded it. In total, more than $100,000 was raised to support the fight against colorectal cancer!
Thank you so much to everyone who supported this amazing event. You are making a difference and helping to save lives in Nova Scotia.
