Dr. Hari and Jayanti Samant immigrated to Canada from India in the 1970’s and have lived in Dartmouth since 1973, sharing the Dartmouth pride that inspires many of our donors. Dr. Hari and Jayanti Samant have been diligently saving money from their household budget since 1984 to give to a charity of their choice. The couple chose the Dartmouth General after Dr. Samant received exceptional care at the Dartmouth General. They also wanted to make an impactful gift to honour the memory of their parents.

The Samants’ $110,000 donation to the Above and Beyond Campaign will help fund the latest equipment and tools for the redevelopment and expansion, enhancing the way we deliver care. Some of this equipment will be located in the hospital’s new Surgical Centre which will be home to 8 new operating suites. The state-of-the-art equipment will include new ceiling booms, flat panel monitors and new specialty lighting for better clinical outcomes and increased workplace safety and infection control.
